If you are planning to renovate your kitchen or bathroom, then one thing you will need to decide is what kind of countertops to use. In particular, you will need to decide whether to use prefabricated or custom countertops.
In this article, our team at Carolina Custom Countertops will go over a few things you need to know about custom counters in order to decide if they are right for you.
- All Cabinets Must Be Complete – The first thing you should know about custom countertops is where they fit into the renovation process. Before we can cut and install your countertops, all your cabinetry must be complete. There might be discrepancies between your blueprints and the finished cabinets, and we need to base our templates for your countertops on the finished results of your cabinets.
- Sink Installation – The process of installing your custom countertops will depend on what type of sink you intend to use. If you are using a drop-in sink, we don’t need to include it in the templating phase since the lip of the sink will hang over the countertops. However, if you want to use an undermount sink, we’ll need to look at it and measure it during the templating phase so we can get the placement and cutouts just right.
- Appliance Placement – Lastly, your kitchen appliances will all need to be in place when we create templates for your custom countertops. If your appliances are not there yet, there’s a possibility of measurement mistakes, which can make the installation phase more difficult.
